I think cause and effect writing very helpful to explain someone about why something happened . In class , teacher always wants student to write about cause and effect so this chapter is vary helpful . Knowing what causes a disease such as diabetes – or knowing its effect – helps us understand and control the condition , cause and effect reasoning helps us deal with everyday issues . In a cause and effect essay , the writer develops the thesis through cause and effect reasoning . That is , he or she analyzes and explains the causes , the effect , or both the causes and the effect of a phenomenon.

A personal narrative is a story that mirrors you and your experiences. You can tell everyone about your experiences or situations in your memory by narration and description. Whatever the topic, your story should help readers see, hear, touch, and taste those details that make your experience come alive. You also can learn something new about the event, about others, and even about yourself because narration and description make you think about it again.

Forms of College Writing

Chapter 9 Forms of College Writing
The purpose of this chapter have three important things about writing across the curriculum, that is How a college curriculum and faculty are organized, What kinds of writing you can expect to do in your courses, and How writing and thinking skills required in one class are linked to writing and thinking skills required in another class. To accomplish these task, the chapter begins by showing the three divisions into which most college curricula are divided, and the academic departments that constitute each division. The chapter then presents more specific information about academic departments, including the topic students study, the forms of writing teachers assign, and traits of those forms. This chapter helps me to have some ideas about my topic that I should write in my class and some details in the topic.

Submitting Writing and Creating Portfolios

Chapter 7 Submitting Writing and Creating Portfolios
After you have done your essay, you can submit a piece of writing to a newspaper, journal, or website or simply place it your writing portfolios. This chapter is concerned about how to submit your writing to the public and creating portfolios.

Editing and Proofreading

Chapter 6 Editing and Proofreading
This chapter will help you edit your writing for style and clarity and proofread it for errors by editing your revised draft , combining sentences , expanding sentences , checking for sentence style , avoiding Imprecise , Misleading , and Biased Words and proofreading your writing . In the mistake of the writing may make reader misunderstand about your essay so this chapter is helpful to know about editing and proofreading method .

Revising

Chapter 5 Revising
After the writer has first draft , then they have to consider about it again and revise about ideas , organization voice and style again then address paragraph issues . Talk a close look at paragraphs for focus unity and coherence , then revise collaboratively and use the writing center . Good writing almost always requires revising and , in some cases , substantial rework . During this step in the writing process , you make changes in

Drafting

Chapter 4 Drafting
Drafting has 3 major stage . In the opening paragraph is one most important elements in any composition . It should accomplish at least three essential things (1) engage the reader (2) establish your direction , tone , and level of language and (3) introduce your line of thought . In developing the middle of an essay is where you do the “heavy lifting” In this part you develop the main points that support your thesis statement by writing that lacks effective detail gives only a vague image of the writer’ s intent and writing that wanders loses its hold on the essay’ s purpose . In ending your draft closing paragraphs can be important for tying up loose ends, clarifying key points , or signing off with the reader. Its’s a way of getting material together , starting out connecting your ideas . A first draft gives you something to work with – verbal wet clay – that will later , through revising and editing , result in a polished piece of writing.

Planning

Chapter 3 Planning
Planning of almost any type requires careful thinking . When you plan an essay , you have two basic thinking objective (1) establish a thesis or focus for your writing , and (2) organize the supporting information . Firstly you have to collect interesting information and perspectives about your subject , then from your thesis statement , then use methods of development by provide direction and shape for writing such as a personal narrative , a descriptive essay , a cause and effect essay , etc . Finally develop a plan or an outline , in the information you have collected , you may need to outline the information or use a graphic organizer .

Beginning the Writing Process

Chapter 2 Beginning the Writing Process
Before the beginning of writing , writer must understand the rhetorical situation include subject , audience , and purpose then understand assignment by reading the assignment , relate the assignment and reflect on the assignment then select a subject . For some assignments , finding a suitable subject (or topic) may require little thinking on your part . Your topic must meet the requirements , be limited in scope , seem reasonable , and genuinely interest you . Finally collect information . I thinking the beginning of writing is the important point in writing because if you start from the right basic concept , it will effect your writing in all process .

Quit Smoking or Quit Breathing

Quit Smoking or Quit Breathing

Smoking is a bad habit that is practiced by some 1.1 billion people, and up to 30 percent of the adult population. Most people start smoking when they are in their teens and are addicted by the time they reach adulthood. Three of the main reasons that young people smoke are to look mature, to be like their friends, and to experiment. Adults smoke for other reasons. Too many people love to smoke. Smoking gives them pleasure. It just makes them feel good. They believe smoking can make them feel better, more confident, and more relaxed. But, I think they have wrong attitude, because there are many disadvantages and bad effects which caused by smoking.
Each year, over 430,000 people die as a result of a smoking related disease. Yet, over 50 million continue to smoke, including over 3 million teens. An estimated three thousand teenagers begin to smoke each day, and one thousand of them will eventually die as a result The World Health Organization estimate that cigarette caused 5.4 million deaths in 2004 and 100 million deaths over the course of the 20th century.
Cigarettes contain over 4000 toxic chemicals, many of which are known to cause cancer. The effects of smoking on human health are serious and in many cases, deadly. Starting at the Top .As a smoker, you're at risk for cancer of the mouth. The teeth become unsightly and yellow. Smokers may experience frequent headaches. And lack of oxygen and narrowed blood vessels to the brain can lead to strokes and the risk of heart attack. The smokers have a great chance to infect lung cancer, especially the heavy smokers, because they suck many danger toxin from the ingredient of cigarettes, like nicotine and tar which caused lung cancer or asthma. Many of the carcinogens from cigarettes can cause bladder cancer. High blood pressure from smoking can damage the kidneys.
The health effects of smoking have results we can measure. Forty percent of men who are heavy smokers will die before they reach retirement age, as compared to only 18 percent of nonsmokers and women who smoke face an increased risk of cervical cancer. But the good news is that when you quit smoking your body begins to repair itself. When you take the decision to stop smoking, it doesn't matter how long you've been smoking, for 20 minutes, 20 days or 20 years. The fact is, that in around 20 minutes from taking your last cigarette, your body will begin to restore and repair itself Ten years after you quit, your body has repaired most of the damage smoking caused. This is one reason to take the big step and quit now
The danger of smoking not only to active smokers but also passive smokers. Passive smoking or Second hand smoking is the process by which another person smokes but the toxic smoke is also inhaled and affects those who move along with the active smoker. The sad thing about this is that second hand smoking is just as harmful as active smoking. They also have chance to infect the illness like the active smokers such as lung cancer or asthma which shouldn’t they have.
Children face a higher risk than adults of the negative effects of secondhand smoke. Not only is a child's body still developing physically, but their breathing rate is faster than that of adults. In addition to the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and death of the baby in its first year of life, a woman's smoking during pregnancy also has other effects on the baby.
The growth and development of all unborn babies is impaired if their mothers smoke. On average, birth weight is reduced by about half a pound. This makes little difference to a baby of normal weight, but could be crucial to ones weighing 3 to 4 pounds. The development of the brain is also affected. Children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy are on average about one year behind non-exposed children in reading and numerical ability, for example. Loss of a few IQ points may be hardly noticeable to a normally intelligent child or adult. The child will be more likely to have behavioral problems and hyperactivity. Finally, during the first few years of life, children are especially sensitive to the harmful effects of passive smoking if their parents smoke. These effects include worsening of asthma, increased frequency of colds and ear infections, and increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
So, though I included the reason of passive smoking, it should be the most important reason for you to stop smoking. Isn’t it a very selfish way of existing without bothering about the safety and well being of others just because you want to indulge in a pleasure of yours?
The cost of smoking is another one reason. How much does smoking cigarettes really cost you out-of-pocket? I've gathered some information you may find interesting. it should excite and inspire you to quit smoking. If you've never taken the time to examine just how much your smoking habit is costing you, then you are in for a shock. Let's look at a simple example.
The cost of a pack of cigarettes averages around $5 to $6, including taxes, depending on where you live. Using the lower number, a pack-a-day smoker burns through about $35 per week, or $1825 per year. Assume now you are 25 years old and you make decision to quit smoking. At your retirement you will earn about $64000. As a smoker you are robbing yourself and your family of thousands of dollars! Your retirement is going up in smoke. And if you need extra cash right now, cutting out cigarettes will deliver instant results. If the health issues don't convince you to quit smoking, perhaps the financial issues will.
Too many people die and lose some members of their family because of smoking
Well, so what are you waiting for? The choice is yours. There are so many things that you can do with this life of yours. And isn’t it a pity to waste it at the end of a cigarette. It is no wonder that someone said that a cigarette is a roll of paper that has fire at one end and a fool at the other. I hope this guide will help you in your quest to stop being the fool.

Checking mechanics

Checking mechanics
A perfect writing should be a error-free writing. However, a error-free writing is not easy and requires more than just using good grammar. You must also use correct mechanics of writing in your essay. The mechanics of writing specifies the established conventions for words that you use in your writing. Grammar reflects the forms of words and their relationships within a sentence. For example, if you put an apostrophe in a plural word (“create two file’s”), you have made a mistake in the mechanics of writing ,not grammar.
Checking mechanics consist of Capitalization, Plurals, Numbers, Abbreviations, Acronyms and Initialisms, and Spelling Rules. Checking on these topics is very helpful to correct your writing.
Capitalization using capital letter in the first letter of the first word. All proper nouns and proper adjective, including first name, last name, cities, countries, languages, ethnics, groups, nationalities, religious, organization, titles, titles of courses, and so on, for example, Phanupong, Kanlaya, San Francisco, USA, English language, American people, Islam, Republican party, English 82A. Capitalize letters and abbreviations of titles and organizations for example, U-turn, T-shirt, M.D., Ph.D., NAACP. Also capitalize words like father, mother, uncle, senator, and professor when they are parts of titles that include a personal name, for example, Hello, Senator Feingold.
In a sentence and a letter have several rules, that is, capitalize the first word in a sentence that is enclosed in parentheses if that sentence is not contained within another complete sentence, but do not use in the middle of another sentence, for example, The bookstore has the software. (Now all I need is the computer.) Capitalize a complete sentence that follows a colon, for example, He said: “I cannot tell you what to do now. I am very confused at all. Can you come and see me again tomorrow? ” In a letter, capitalize the first and all major words of the salutation, and capitalize only the first word of the complimentary closing, for example, Dear Professor:, Sincerely yours,. The words Internet and World Wide Web are always capitalized because they are considered proper nouns.
The second checking is checking plurals, you have to recognize how to transform common nouns to plurals. Nouns ending in a consonant are formed by adding an s to the singular form, exceptional the plurals of nouns ending in sh, ch, x, s, and z are made by adding es to the singular form, for example, dorm–dorms, credit–credits, lunch–lunches.
The plurals of common nouns that end in y ,that preceded by a consonant, are formed by changing the y to I and adding es, for example, duty–duties. The plurals of common nouns and proper nouns, that end in y and preceded by a vowel, are formed by adding only an s, for example, toy–toys, the five Faheys.
The plurals of words ending in o, that preceded by a vowel, are formed by adding an s, for example, radio–radios. But If these words preceded by a consonant, adding es would be used, for example, tomato-tomatoes.
The plurals of nouns that end in f or fe : If the final f sound is still heard in the plural form, simply add s; if the final sound is a v sound, change the f to ve and add an s, for example, roof–roofs, wife–wives.
Many foreign words (as well as some of English origin) form a plural by taking on an irregular spelling; other are now acceptable with the commonly used s or es ending, for example, child–children, alumnus-alumni, syllabus–syllabi, syllabuses. In symbols, letters, figures, and words discussed as words are formed by adding an apostrophe and an s, for example YMCA’s CD’s
Number may be spelled out or written as numerals by the following rules ; Numbers and ordinal numbers from one to one hundred are usually written as words ; numbers 101 and greater one usually written as numerals , for example ten , twenty – five 106 , 1,079 , second , twenty – fifth , 106th . If number greater than 101 are used infrequently in a piece of writing , you may spell out those that can be written in one or two words , for example , two hundred , six billion and you also use a combination of numerals and words for very large numbers , such as 1.5 million , 6 trillion.
Use only numerals for the following forms : decimals , percentages ,pages, chapters, addresses, dates, telephone numbers, identification number, and statistics and also use with abbreviations and symbols, for example, 26.2, 8%, chapter 16, pages 287-289, (212) 555-1234, 5’9”, 6lb, 8 oz., 90 F . In time and money, if time is expressed with an abbreviation, use numerals, if it is expressed in words, spell out the number such as 4:00 am. Or four o’clock .In money, if is expressed with a symbol, use numberals ; if the currency is expressed in words must spell out the number, for example , $ 20 or twenty dollars .
Use only words to express numbers, that begin a sentence and precede a compound modifier that includes a numeral, for example, Three hundred contest entries were received, The chef prepared 24 eight–ounce filets. Also use words for the names of numbered streets of one hundred or less, the names of buildings, and references to particular centuries, for example, Ninth Avenue, Two Fifty Park Avenue, and the twenty-first century.
An abbreviation is the shortened form of a word or a phrase. These abbreviations are always acceptable in both formal and informal writing. But In formal writing, do not abbreviate the names of states, countries, months, days, units of measure, or courses of study. Do not abbreviate the words Street, Road, Avenue, Company, and similar words when they are part of a proper name. Also, do not use signs or symbols in place of words. When abbreviations are called for (in charts, lists, bibliographies, notes, and indexes, for example), standard abbreviations are preferred. Reserve the postal abbreviations for ZIP code addresses.
An acronym is word formed from the first (or first few) letters of words in a set phrase. Even though acronyms are abbreviations, they require no periods, for example, radar radio detecting and ranging, and VISTA Volunteers in Service to America . An initialism is similar to an acronym except that the initials used to form this abbreviation are pronounced individually, for example, CIA Central Intelligence Agency.
Good writing requires correctly spelling, if you misspell, that means the reader cannot understand your story . Using the following rules of spelling is very helpful to improve your spelling .
1. Write I before e except after c, or when sounded like a as in neighbor and weigh, for example, believe, relief.
2. When a one-syllable word (bat) ends in a consonant (t) preceded by one vowel (a), double the final consonant before adding a suffix that begins with a vowel (batting). However , some multisyllable words can use the same rule, for example, prefer– preferred, begin– beginning.
3. If a word ends with a silent e, drop adding a suffix that begins with a vowel. Do not drop the e when the suffix begins with a consonant , for example, use-using-useful, like-liking-likeness.
4. When y is last letter in a word and the y is preceded by a consonant, change the y to I before adding any suffix except those beginning with I, but if preceded by a vowel, add s, for example, lady-ladies, toy-toys.
A good writer has to be patient, check the correct pronunciation of each word you are attempting to spell . Then note the meaning and history of each word as you are checking the dictionary for the pronunciation and before you close the dictionary , practice spelling the word. You have to learn some spelling rules and make a list of the word that you misspell. Finally you have to practice writing everyday.
Effective writing requires a sound understanding of the mechanics of good writing, that is a manual of basic rules that actually builds writing skills and help writer at all levels, as students and professionals improve the quality of their writing.

Proposing a solution

Proposing a solution

Have you ever seen an eighth grader, who has no mental or physical disabilities, struggle through basic third grade math? Throughout high school I have and it has become a common sight in our schools. Some were placed in remedial classes, while others sat next to me in some of my honor's course. Students are being passed through school without being taught the basic skills necessary to be successful in today's society. Measures need to be taken so that these students are not pushed through school and thrown into the real world without the skills necessary to succeed. The solution to this is through standardized classes and periodic evaluations of both teachers and students.
In the past standardized classrooms have been looked down upon, because of the concept that all students do not learn at the same rate. This is true; there shouldn't be a standard that is untouchable for most students. There should be a standard so that when a student graduates he or she is prepared to be a productive part of society. Besides just having a standard there must be some way to check that it is being followed.

Strategies for argumentation and persuasion

Strategies for argumentation and persuasion
This set of lessons is part of what I try to give students experiences in understanding the forces that shape their ideas and opinions, and work in reshaping their arguments so that truth and reason are evident. The lessons work to raise student understanding of the elements of media in use today; newspaper, television, and internet. They analyze how different elements are used to influence different audience groups, and use both these elements of advertising, and traditional writing strategies for persuasive communication

Persuading reader

Persuading reader
Persuading others is a difficult task. No one is expected to persuade every reader or audience member, but you can get all of your readers or audience to think critical about your view.
1.Tell your audience why you believe in the point you are arguing for or against. People will not believe in something if they believe you don’t.

2.Present solid facts on what you are arguing for or against, or are trying to persuade your audience to do. Emotional appeals are fine, but when people are asked to believe in something they never thought of or don’t agree with the best way to get them on your side is to present fact

3.Mention reasons why some people may not take your side. The point of a persuasive speech is to get one’s audience to agree with his or her point of view, but everyone may not agree with you or have questions about what you are arguing for or against
4.Tell your audience how adopting your viewpoint can be beneficial to them.

Taking a Position

Taking a Position
At the beginning of this unit we pointed out that the essay writing process is a dynamic one, in which you can move back and forth between the various steps involved (follow this link for a graphical representation). At some point, you should begin to clearly see what position you can legitimately argue in regard to the essay question. Using critical thinking strategies will help you reach this point. Before you begin to write, you will need to go over your notes, and refer back to the question to carefully clarify the position you're taking. You should articulate this position (or answer to the question) briefly in writing, in one or two sentences, before you begin to write: this will help you to keep your essay focussed and coherent. This will also form the basis for the position or thesis statement you need to include in the introduction to your essay.

Definition Writing

Definition writing
Definition essays aren’t difficult to write. By a definition essay, we mean an essay that defines what a term means. This could be a concrete term, such as “Egg” or “Water”, or abstract, like “Honor” or “Friendship” or the done-to-death “Love”. The topic is usually general, and being so broad, the approach is completely up to the writer; whether he wishes it to be serious or humorous, general or specific.Definition essays are the perfect opportunity to let your wit and imagination run wild. Remember to make your essay amusing, poignant, personal and thus memorable to the reader.

Process Writing

process writing
A process is a series of actions leading to an expected or planned outcome. There are two types of process essays: those that instruct and those that explain or analyze. Directional process essays might explain how to find an apartment. The purpose of this type of essay is to clarify the steps in the procedure so that the reader can re-create the steps and the results. An informational process essay explains or analyzes a process--tells how something works, how something happened, or how something is or was done. For example, you could explain how World War II began or how hurricanes form. The informational process essay, has a purpose different from that of a directional process essay. Its main purpose is to inform, explain, or analyze. The reader is gaining an understanding of the process; he or she does not necessarily expect to be able to recreate the process.

Classification Writing

Classification Writing
A classification essay arranges and organizes a topic or subject into categories. The purpose of a classification essay is to break things down so they can be further investigated. Some classification essays breakdown the subject matter into categories that are easily distinguishable and clear, whereas others may aim to show unlikely or contrasting components

Critical Thinking Through Reading , Viewing , and Writing

Comparison and contrast essay
Comparison and contrast essay is one of the most common assignments in American high schools and universities. In this type of an essay the students have to compare two (in some essays several) things, problems, events or ideas- and evaluate their resemblances and differences. This type of an essay advances and develops your critical thinking as well as your argumentation and understanding of the importance of the events and things that you compare.

Why I love to Cook .

I love to cook. I watched my mother and grandmother cook when I was a young child and when I was old enough to see above the kitchen counter they taught me how to cook many of the recipes common in Thai culture. Now that I live in America I still love to cook but probably for different reasons. When I cook my own food I save money. It is also convenient for me to cook my own food because I can prepare it using the recipes I learned at home. Ironically, I find more than convenience in cooking, I feel more connected to my Thai culture.

When I moved to America two years ago I didn’t know exactly what to expect. From a culinary standpoint I knew that there would be many different types of foods to choose from because America is so multicultural. While I enjoy many different types of foods, the thing that struck me most was how expensive it is to routinely eat out in San Francisco. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, going to the bar at night…It really costs a lot of money to eat out all the time. I discovered that my ability to cook can save me a lot of money! I can cook the foods I like, in the amounts I need and save money from going out to restaurants. But I also discovered that while there are many different types of cuisines to choose from in San Francisco, I enjoy Thai food the best.

It is not difficult to notice that there are many Thai restaurants in San Francisco. Many of them are good…if you are not Thai. Thai restaurants typically serve food that is better suited for the tastes of people who are not Thai. The food is prepared in the Thai style but it is normally not authentic Thai food prepared the way I’m used to. Sometimes if you want something done right (or to your tastes) you have to do it yourself. This is the other reason why I like to cook. I can prepare traditional Thai dishes, not normally found on menus in Thai Restaurants in San Francisco. I can prepare dishes using ingredients from recipes that were handed down to me from my family. I can control the freshness of the ingredients, the amount of food prepared, and most importantly I control the flavor of the food. So, not only am I saving money, I’m preparing the dishes that taste the best to me. This food reminds me of home.

This might be the best reason to cook my own food. Living far away from Thailand is fun. I love San Francisco. But sometimes (actually, maybe a lot of times) I want to feel connected to my culture. There is no better way to feel close to home than to eat a home cooked meal. I like preparing a meal the way my mother and my grandmother did. I like the aroma of the food cooking in the kitchen. I love the flavor of the food. It reminds me of home. It brings me closer to my Thai culture even though I am far away from home. These things are an excellent reminder. Sometimes I even call my mother for advice on how to prepare some of my favorite soups or to talk about certain ingredience.

It is easier to simply go to a restaurant and have someone else cook your food. And it’s nice to go out with friends. But I have discovered it’s not only expensive to go out, but over the long run it’s not as convenient. I like cooking. I like it because I cook the dishes I like best. I can prepare the food I like best with flavors and ingredience I enjoy the most. But most of all, cooking brings me closer to home, reminds me of my culture, of my family, of Thailand so that I need not feel far away from home.

My bio poem

Phanupong
Friedly,honest,smiling,humility
Sun of Yutthapong(dad),sun of Charun(mom)
Who loved equity, freedom,and family
Who hate taking adventage, humiliation, and really care of family and friends
Who feared losing the members of family or friends, feard making someone upset, feared that young people might make wrong decision at the turning point of their life
Who graduated from the most famous university, that too many people want to,nobody believe that
Who wanted to see peaceful in the world ,and wanted to see equity to happen for everyone,
Born in Thailand and living in Phayao city
Kanlaya
